The Vegan Cake Search...

So I'm Erinn, and I'm the MasterPiece Weddings Intern. I'm currently in the process of planning my own wedding for next December and have found myself in a cake rut. You see, I have a ton of allergies and my fiance has none. I'm not going to force all of my guests to eat a cake that tastes like cardboard just because I can't eat some of the ingredients. So what to do, what to do? Many people don't understand the world of vegan wedding cakes. Some people may hear the word dairy free and cake in the same sentence and try to run. What you don't know, is how beautiful a vegan cake or dessert display can turn out to be:
So here is my problem. I don't want to have to get two cakes considering most wedding guests nibble at a cake and never eat the whole piece. Is it worth it to find a beautiful vegan cake and have my guests just deal with the taste difference? Or settle for buying two smaller cakes with one being vegan and the other yummy, creamy, and dairy delicious?

What if you got a normal cake and then just had a small vegan sheet cake in the back that was maybe a different flavor... then people could choose and it seems like it would save you some money....

i'm with amanda - another option is to have cute little cakes in different sizes - can make for a really fun table display and then you get to choose different flavors! I was at a wedding recently with pound cakes, chocolate mousse cakes, etc and etc. another idea is cake centerpieces. each table has a little cake on it! Guests seem to appreciate this as well. :-)

If it's too difficult to find someone to bake an entire vegan wedding cake, maybe try a small vegan cake in the back they can bring out.

Honestly though, as a (recent) vegan I have found that it is not hard at all to get quality vegan products. I bet you could get an entire vegan wedding cake and no one would notice that it's vegan unless you said something. :) Good luck!

You can have one of the small tiers of your wedding cake vegan. I have done that many times for vegan brides or grooms. That way it is a part of your cake. It is YOUR day, you deserve the best and to have your cake be beautiful and delicious!

There are plenty of vegan bakers and I don't think it will be an issue at all. And the cakes look the same and taste even better, particularly when you consider the added bonus of: Nobody died for them. Plus you're making a statement to your guests about what you believe in--and you're allowed to because it's your day!
