I'd like to ask you a question, and if you could comment on it please be honest, be brutal, be yourself.... it would make me the happiest little blogger E.V.E.R!
As a bride or as a wedding vendor, what is your determing factor when
choosing or refering a photographer?
GO!
For me, the style and quality of their photography is #1, and personality is a very close #2, as I want my couples to spend the day with a photographer they can enjoy!
ReplyDeleteAs a (former) bride, style + final produt was #1 to me as I listed my fav photogs to friends + family.
ReplyDeleteAs a wedding vendor, both price + style are factored in when referring photogs to clients.
When choosing a photographer for my own wedding, style was most important. And then, because we were on a smaller budget, the price came next. Also, my then fiance-now husband was very insistent that he wanted to see every single picture and have the ability to print and reprint them at our own leisure, without having to pay extra for each copy that we wanted.
ReplyDeleteThe over all style and orginality is huge for me. When recommending a photographer to my couples. I tend to look for what sets each photographer apart from the other, in order to find that perfect fit for my couples personality & style. Then of course price, I definitely suggest searching within their budget.
ReplyDeleteI wanted a photographer that I like and would enjoy being around. I also wanted someone who would do what I wanted, not necessarily what they wanted. Their style and quality is also important.
ReplyDeleteAs a bride, the reccommendation that made me choose my photographer was that it was a husband wife team that were incredibly friendly and professional and cool under pressure. Also that they had the top of the line equipment AND top of the line BACK UP equipment. I looked through their images and found that they REALLY can capture the moment and the feelings, not just the image. When I looked through one wedding album, I went from teary eyed to laughing out loud at some of the moments.... and I didn't know the people in the picture, and I wasn't as the wedding. With no captions the photos were able to make me laugh and cry. SOLD.
ReplyDeleteI would refer any photographer with amazing shots and a fun, flexible personality. Chemistry with your photographer is sometimes just as important as the chemistry with your significant other. But when choosing for myself, I would look for someone with quality and originality! I want my wedding to stand out and I don't want the exact same wedding album as my best-friend. Price would come in a close second. There are so many amazing photographers out there that you don't have to pay and arm and a leg to get one!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment on our blog. That was so nice of you!
ReplyDeleteTo answer your question - Photography equals a few things for me
1.) Personality! They have to mesh well from day one in order for the bride to feel comfortable.
2.) Style! Absolutely! Photography is an art.
3.) Communication! The more I know and trust a photographer, the more I'll send business their way. If they communicate with my brides wants and needs, thats a huge success to me.
When making suggestions for brides, I find that what they want in style and quality is pretty much different for each bride. So with the particular bride's desires style wise in mind, I always suggest picking a photographer that offers unlimited time on the wedding day, has at least two shooters at the wedding and allows you to purchase reprint rights to your photos.
ReplyDeleteI look for a photographer that takes great candid shots. Posed pictures are really nice for family- but it is the non-intrusive spontaneous ones that make the best memories!
ReplyDeleteI think the most obvious is the work, but I take I need a Photog with personality and customer service :)
ReplyDeleteps your blog is awesome!
1) Style and quality of the photos
ReplyDelete2) Personality of the photographer
3) Cost
Really all three of those had to be in perfect harmony for me to make my choice!
Style of photography, personality and cost are what is most important to me.
ReplyDeleteMy response only mirrors what everyone else has said. The style and quality of their previous work was what sold me. I wasn't as concerned with price only because I was willing to compromise elsewhere to have the photographer of my choice. Once I fell in love with their work I compared their images across albums and, realizing that their images still screamed of originality and pizazz no matter what the scenario, I was sold.
ReplyDeleteIt has been quite a bit since I've blogged and commented (sorry :-) but I had to share in this one....
ReplyDeleteWe had a husband and wife team as well - and they worked so well together and basically ran our wedding for us because our wedding planner/coordinator quit the day before our wedding! Our photo team was awesome, charismatic, fun, friendly, and communicated well with us and our guests. Their final product was also important to us as well - and their examples of their work from prior weddings they had done also helped us make our initial choice.
Just wanted to share! Miss you!
1. Photos have to tell a story - be creative, have style and be different, not just your standard group shot. The details of the event that caputures it all...
ReplyDeleteIF they have that then they HAVE to have an option for me to have the images on a cd to reprint or the negatives within a resonable amount of time. its my event and i want to share it with my family without paying a fortune.
IF I can have the image rights then the person has to mesh well with me and my family - you have to smile for someone, might as well be someone i like!
cost is a factor but the bottom line is my friends that skimped on a cheap photographer regretted it BIG TIME... so if you pay a little more you get a little more!
As a bride-to-be choosing a wedding photographer I would say:
ReplyDelete#1 Friendly personality with a genuine desire to 'do a good job the way we want it' - ie, not do artistic-y photos if that's not what we asked for.
#2 We get all of our pictures.
#3 Experience.
Hope this helps!
